Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Now your baby can enjoy a comfortable upright sitting position from around 4 months with this South African designed Grobag Bumbo Baby Sitter. Simply pop the moulded Grobag bumbo baby sitter supportive shape on the floor and sit your baby inside. Because the material is soft, your babies body weight and pressure narrows the gap above their legs slightly so they sit safely and securely without the need for fiddly, restrictive straps. Your little one will love the independence to look around and use their hands.

4 out of 5 stars Fantstic product although overpriced   November 3, 2008
H. Hobbs (uk)
I loved this product with my son. It enabled him to sit upright once he was able to support himself better and kept him secure in a sitting position. I was able to feed him his food and drink easily until he was too active to remain in it safely. It gave him alot of support around his lower back when he was learning to sit and he was able to hold his head up himself.

The downside is the price of it as it is rather expensive for what it is but I got alot of use out of it when my son didn't want to recline in his bouncy chair any more. It's very lightweight but bulky to store/carry around. Very easy to clean if accidents and spillages occur as its wipe clean.

5 out of 5 stars Helps baby sit up - secure, supervised sitting!   September 1, 2008

The bumbo seat is made of a strong, foam based substance and gives when pressed. When baby sits in it, the design of the bumbo and baby's own body weight supports them in a sitting position. Baby needs to be able to support their head. My son seems happy in it for short periods - he may get more used to it as time goes on - but is happier in his bouncy chair. However I would highly recommend the bumbo as a useful aid when feeding baby, before they can sit in a high chair. I wouldn't dream of leaving my son alone it - I can see ways that he could get out of it, by leaning backwards or forwards, especially as he gets bigger. I also wouldn't use it on an elevated surface, for fear of him toppling it. That said he hasn't fallen out of it or even managed to rock it - these are merely my new mum worries! You can get a tray to go on the front of the bumbo (which I haven't seen on amazon) which fits well and helps again with feeding. So - 5 stars but baby still needs supervision!

1 out of 5 stars My baby fell out - don't buy!!   August 16, 2008

My baby was 7 months when I bought this and she fell out, on to the floor - with a hard bang on her head and bruised eye. She cried so much. I felt SO sorry. This was only within days of buying it. I have returned it. I regret buying it. It is not worth it. Probably good for younger babies but something with straps is FAR more secure. I did like how easy it was to put her in (no straps), she did like it, but it was just as easy for her to get out. I really didn't think she could get out of it. The fact is, you can't have your eyes on your baby ALL the time, especially as things can happen so quickly. So it better to be safe than sorry.

3 out of 5 stars Great in theory, but...   May 23, 2008

I bought one of these for my daughter because i liked the design and thought it looked like a really useful thing to have, but what I have found is that my daughter, who is very inquisitive and advanced for her age, has just about worked out how to get out of it, and she is not quite five months old yet. Also i would not dream of using the bumbo on tiled or wooden floors because it could be really nasty if she tipped backwards in it.
In practice, I don't feel comfortable leaving my daughter sitting alone in the bumbo (even on carpeted floors) long enough for me to go to the toilet, and so i don't think i could recommend a bumbo to a friend.

5 out of 5 stars Essential piece of kit   October 24, 2007

Oh how I wish these were about when my previous three babies were born!

This is one of those pieces of equipment that you buy and think ''hmmm, a bit pricey, and the baby will grow out of it so quickly'' .

However, I have found, so far, that it has been worth every pound spent. It is just perfect for early weaning for that really awkward stage when your baby is too young to sit in a high chair and too big to be fed in the crook of your arm.

It really does free your hands and makes feeding a cynch.

It is also great for letting baby sit and watch you going about your business. I also put a baby gym in front of mine and she sits and happily bashes away at the toys. It is also brilliant to take out and about so the baby has somewhere safe, clean and suitable to sit wherever you are.

To me, the baby is safe and secure. I can't see, at this stage (5 months) how she can possibly fall out of it, although I can see that an older baby could easily reach down to touch the ground with their hand and topple out - but as I say, a much older baby who would probably be more mobile by then anyway. I would always recommend keeping it on the floor but if you must put it on a raised, flat surface, never take your eyes off it. Never put it on a soft surface like a sofa or bed as it would and does very easily topple over.

This is a more sturdy design with a wider base or footprint than the Lionheart BeBePod so I feel it has the edge in this regard. I also feel that if your baby is on the larger side or taller than average, this is a seat that you will get more use of.

I guess I can't possibly see a baby sitting in it up to the age of 14 months - they may actually fit in it still, but getting them to stay put would be another matter! So realistically you will get less than a few months reliable use of it - but what crucial months they are!
