2 mins. of fun a few times over and then the batteries wear out December 16, 2008 Joanne T. Middleton (Holland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first sight this toy looked great, however there are a few things that make it not worth a buy. Firstly, there is only about 2 minutes of fun before most of the butterflies come out. Secondly, 3 or 4 of them normally get stuck somewhere along the way out of the elephants trunk. Thirdly, because of the heavy duty lid where the butterflies go, my little one gets frustrated at not being able to do it herself and requires someones help every 2 minutes. This doesn't really make for good independant play. And fourth but not certainly least, after a few goes of the two minutes of fun the batteries wear out and this toy requires a lot of batteries. So if I had my time back I would give this toy a miss.
Disappointing on so many counts... December 15, 2008 Macamazon (London) Echoing what many other reviewers have said, this toy really looks much better on the box and in the adverts than it performs in real life - in fact, we couldn't get it to work at all at first and had to invest in some stronger (and more expensive) batteries. Once it was up and running, it didn't take the children long to get bored of it. The butterflies all shoot out within about 15 seconds, then all there is to do is pick them up and put them back in again. I think it comes with about 30 butterflies, but they soon start to disappear after you've had a few turns. My 2-year-old lost interest because she found it too difficult to catch the butterflies, and my 4-year-old quickly tired of having to keep taking the trunk off and reload all the butterflies every couple of minutes. Now and then they'll spot the box and want to play, but about 5 minutes later they've had enough. So, although it's a sturdy toy and a nice idea, in practice it's a very disappointing game which I wouldn't recommend at all.
Don't bother November 26, 2008 Mr. G. A. Butler I brought this for my son last Christmas (he was 3 at the time)and he's played with it twice. There aren't enough butterflies, so you spend your time picking them up to put them back in. They all come out at once, so the game is over quite quickly. They are hard to catch for a little one and as soon as the batteries are on the wane, the butterflies don't fly up the sprout! We've recently sold ours at the car boot sale
Doesn't last long.. November 19, 2008 Heartsease (London UK) Like all those games you wanted when you were a kid and saw the cartoon on tele, then then box was great and it was so exciting, until you played it.When you realised that it was just a load of cheap plastic and paper. Its disappointing, the butterflies are bits of twisted wax paper which got wet or lost, it makes an unpleasant noise and its all over in less than a minute. In fact I've just thrown it out.
Great Quality and Fantastic Fun. October 28, 2008 debbie8355 (Devon, UK) This is a great activity toy. It's one of those few toys that are well worth the money and get lots of use. My under 6s find it hilarious and although the game doesn't last very long they are so enthusiatic about playing it again they have no problem collecting up the butterflies, setting it up and starting again. I can't think of any other games where they are really happy to tidy up like this. Parental help is required when loading the butterflies - you have to disconnect the nose hose at the base in order to put the butterflies in again. There is no way children can get their fingers stuck in the fan that blows out the butterflies and it has a great safety feature where the fan cuts out if the elephant is lifted up. It is a well made toy. The hose is sturdy and has lasted 3 years+ without needing any kind of repair. I haven't noticed it eating batteries either. They seem to last a long time. Most of the butterflies do come out pretty fast and furious but there are usually a few stragglers you 'hear' rising up the tube which adds to the anticipation of catching them. The butterflies don't fly far from the Elefun so there is usually a good chance of catching 2-3 butterflies. Especially if you hold a net in each hand. My children are equally happy trying to collect them with their hands though. It's a really fun game and highly recommended for young children.
