 Great player and better value than the ipod touch November 17, 2008

I'm going to compare this player to the ipod touch which is what I had considered buying until I saw the price tag and compared the two models.
This player is great overall. I initially bought it just as an mp3 player but after seeing how amazing the screen quality was, I've been using it to watch movies during my lunch breaks at work. The quality of the screen beats most mp3 players hands down even if it may be smaller than some that are out there; and this includes the ipod touch as the zen's screen has a better colour display (zen 16.7 million colours vs ipod touch's 64 thousand colours). Keep in mind that though the screen is smaller than an ipod touch, the whole player is smaller and lighter, all the while still providing longer battery life. Additionally the player can handle many different video formats thanks to its video converter software so video formats out there that are made to watch on ipods can be converted and watched the zen instead.
Other advantages over the ipod touch include:

voice recording
on the go deleting
bookmarking of tracks
custom EQ
volume equaliser
volume limiter
FM radio
in line remote control available
The player is indeed a finger smudge magnet and is easily damaged but this is easily solved with zagg's invisishield screen protector which I have used to protect the whole front of my device with (an amazing piece of kit for less than 10)! The sound quality seems slightly better on the 32gb model than the 16gb but that may just be because I had a problematic 16gb model that kept freezing when it was new which I ended up returning. The only downsides to the player I would say are that it doesn't have the capability to browse the internet like the ipod touch and this would have been a nice addition.
Overall it is a fantastic player and despite one minor shortcoming, it is definitely worth purchasing over an ipod!

I bought a 4GB Zen a couple of months ago having previously had a 512MB Zen Nano Plus (also good), and fancying more memory and some video capability. I have been nothing but pleased with this player.
**Good Points**
Ease of Use: Clear, easy to read, easy to navigate interface, eg click on Music-Artists-Ayumi Hamasaki-Guilty-My All in the traditional Artis-Album-Song method. The nicely designed icons and typeface make it a pleasure to look at.
Visuals: Bright, clear 2.5-inch screen makes looking at video and pictures a wonderful experience.
Controls: Simple, tactile buttons with a nice solid action make it easy to navigate, and because Creative have been thoughtful enough to make them the correct size for thumbs, you never have the problem of hitting two buttons at the same time.
Sound: Excellent. Using the supplied 'phones is OK, but with my Sony MDR-EX35LP earbuds (bought in Japan, don't know if you can get them here), the sound quality is excellent, with deep bass and a good range. The graphic equaliser helps you to set it up just right.
Bundled Software: Easy to use and without any major bugs, the supplied software is great. File transferral and CD ripping are easy, and the ZenCast Organizer downloads ZenCasts quickly and formats them to the correct size for the player.
**Bad Points**
Screen is slightly prone to finger marks, but wipe it with a cloth,or if you're obsessive buy a case.

Summary: An excellent player, great value for the money, and with lots of features. Yeah, it freezes occasionally, but it's only about once a month and you can just poke the reset button and you're up and running again.
Would recommend this to anyone.
Great Quality, But Screen Commonly Scratches November 16, 2008

It is a good Mp4 and a great player, great video quality. My first one though was faulty but my 2nd one is perfect except the screen gets the odd scratch which is removable with the right stuff!

I have both Ipod and Zen, I give both 5 stars but the zen pips it on sound and build with a better video quality.

I bought one of these and it never worked. At all!
Do yourself a favour and Google the following:
Creative Zen White Screen of Death
This is caused by poor quality control at Creative and will leave you with a dead or intermittently faulty device. Don't touch this one with your musical barge pole!!
