Forget the power supply March 10, 2010 Mr. Q. J. Sabanowski It is unpractical to move from place to place with the power supply adapter(which is never shown on any pictures!).
fast & quiet March 10, 2010 A. Needham (England) I bought this to duplicate backups between this drive and my Western Digital Elements 1TB drive. The first thing I noticed is that it's very quiet which is a requirement since I'm using it with an HTPC system. The only time I can hear it is when it spins up from rest. Secondly, although there's no apparent difference in the speed of transfering data to and from the drive compared to the WD drive, it is so much faster during boot up. When the WD drive was connected the computer used to take minutes to boot up, to this day I've not found out why. The Seagate in comparison doesn't seem to cause any significant delay. It's early days in respect of reliability but from an initail evaluation I give this drive 5 stars.
Feels very unreliable March 10, 2010 B. Kelleher (Bristol, UK) Having had the hard drive for a few weeks now, I understand why it's so cheap on here and in high street stores like Maplin. The drive acts like it's about to die most of the time. Every so often, it makes a strange clicking sound continuously for an hour or so, and if it's not been used in a while, it takes a minute or so to get going when you try to browse it. The outer casing is cheap plastic and the whole thing feels like it'll last a few months tops. I won't be using it for anything I'd like to have long term and I really wouldn't recommend buying one at any price. I'm very surprised as I'd always considered Seagate a fairly decent manufacturer, will stick with western digital in future.
Working so far March 9, 2010 Mr. Anthony Butler (UK) Works fine on my MAC, good price and nothing wrong with it yet. Hopefully it stays that way. Speed is fine for what I'm using it for.
cheaper than bare drive March 8, 2010 Mr. M. G. Blair (Scotland) Purchased the 1TB version to replace a failed drive in my NAS. Drive inside is a Seagate barracuda 7200.12 with no 4 pin molex. hope this helps.
