Amazon.co.uk Review "Release the Kraken!" Ah, it could only be Clash of the Titans, the 2010 remake that retains the instruction to unleash the great beastie from the sea. The 1981 original boasted Ray Harryhausen's legendary stop-motion technique of animating various mythological creatures--it was his final feature project--and given the cornball approach of the movie in general, that was the main draw. The remake supplies new state-of-the-art special effects (released theatrically in 3-D) and a nicely muscular sense of momentum. Sam Worthington (the Avatar guy) plays Perseus, a demigod who doesn't know that Zeus (Liam Neeson) is his father. Perseus is selected to lead an expedition to find and slay the Medusa, lest Zeus's evil brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes, in fine slinking mode) rain down misery upon a seaport--and you just know that means the Kraken is coming. Ye gods, it's a mess, and we haven't even mentioned the witches and the harpies and the giant scorpions. But if we did, it would be clear that Clash of the Titans is a perfectly dandy popcorn epic, unpretentious and punchy. Director Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2) gets a fine rhythm going during Perseus's trek, and you can even forgive the hokey shafts-of-light-through-clouds look of Olympus. Leterrier also had the good sense to import the marvelous Danish star Mads Mikkelsen to provide mentoring duties to Perseus; Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos fulfill the eye-candy roles. It's up to individual viewers to choose which they prefer--Harryhausen's magically hand-wrought creations (his Medusa sequence is an absolute killer) or the 21st century's slick computer-generated variations. But nostalgia aside, it would be hard to deny that this is one case where the remake tops the original. --Robert Horton

Back from the future! September 5, 2010 Mr. Piotr J. Masiak (MK, UK) O, dear. the yanks have done a psycho-babble to Greek legends and failed terribly...
The original was far better, included more of O's journeys and horrors. by modern cgi standards they may have been a bit hammy, bit did i fall asleep during Clash of the ..who? Titans...a brief explanation was given near start but from then on the film went downhill...FAST!
It was boring and only gravity to it to some ending. What happened to the cheeky OWL? Athena's pet doesn't get a look in cf. with original.
Sorry, Boringwood: must try harder. Greek knowledge -or no-lidge!- 2/10. CGI, 7/10, Context 4/10.
Overall, I want my money back! What a waste of a couple of hours!
does what is says on the tin. September 4, 2010 Mr. J. A. Wells 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you looking for award winning performaces, a gritty plot to get your teeth into, stunning back drops then look away now. This film was made to entertain and it does just that.
this is a great sunday lazy afternoon film where you can just sit back and enjoy whats infront of you. the plot is feble yes but sometimes you want a film where you dont have to think about the plot or if youve missed anything.
This film is all about the special effects which are great in places. I think this movie will find a home in the 'B' movies bracket and may even become a cult hit in years to come.
I expect a re-release in 3D format at somepoint next year to cash in on the 3D market so you might be better suited waiting.
If you dont expect too much then this film will deliver.

Clash of the Poor Story and Mediocre Performances. September 1, 2010 JustMartin (Widnes, Cheshire, United Kingdom) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Film
First things first, if your looking for a historical epic the likes of Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven, then you should look elsewhere. If your looking for a historical action romp with sword fights and huge mythical creatures then, by all means, keep on reading.
Since its release, Clash of the Titans has received some very harsh criticisms and while it wont win any awards, it can still an entertaining film to watch.
Lets start with the good shall we. The film is a spectacle, from the landscapes to the CGI, this is one impressive looking film. Its also entertaining to watch, to see all the creatures from stories you remember as a child. Seeing Pegasus the winged horse and the Gorgon Medusa. But, to be honest, the good ends there really.
Now for the bad. The acting is some of the most wooden and disappointing that I have seen, Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation) doesn't seem like he cares too much about his character or what happens to him and as a result depicts a character that is almost impossible to relate too. The big names in this film (Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes) seem to hide their embarrassment behind long beards and layers of makeup and CGI. The story and scrip aren't much better, in fact, the story is just short of a complete mess. It doesn't seem to know where its going next and is impossible to keep up with a times. The plot also feels very `squashed' and rushed. The story of the film could have easily been drawn out over several films, yet they managed to squeeze it into a 106 minute film that, as a result, doesn't seem to have to have real resolution.
The Blu Ray
There isn't much to say about the Blu Ray itself. The picture quality is brilliant, its a clear as rain and I am sure I am not the only one who is glad that it is in 2D. Aside from that though, this is a pretty bog standard release, it has a few special features but nothing i was eager to watch. It includes a behind the scenes interactive feature and a short documentary on Sam Worthington, as well as a few deleted scenes.
It also comes with a digital copy of the film, but most new releases come bundled with digital copies now, so its nothing to rave about.
Words cannot accurately convey how terrible this movie is September 1, 2010 Nicholas Ellis (London) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
No charismatic characters, no story development, no idea what is happening or about to happen on screen. The whole film is a vast shambling mess with no discernable redeeming features. Avoid at all costs.
I only gave this 1 star because I can't give it zero stars.
